The FPH perceives the humanities as the diverse forms of human labor, both practical and intellectual, that give us freedom and dignity. In its particular case, the FPH gives priority to humanities knowledge in the measure that it reflects the diversity of the Puerto Rican experience, heritage, traditions and history. The FPH also perceives the humanities as a learning process that is relevant to all phases of human life, from the formative stages to productive maturity and advanced age (the concept of “life-long humanities”). In this context, the institutional mission of the FPH is expressed as follows:
The Puerto Rican Endowment for the Humanities (FPH for its acronym in Spanish) is an independent, non-profit organization affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities and dedicated to promoting the values of the humanities. It accomplishes this through its own initiatives and by promoting, financing and supporting individuals, communities and non-profit organizations. The organization’s own initiatives, as well as the proposals, are aimed at developing programs and activities that stimulate analysis and dissemination of knowledge about the Puerto Rican experience and reality.
The Puerto Rican Endowment for the Humanities (FPH for its acronym in Spanish) aspires to be recognized, both within and beyond Puerto Rico, as the leading non-governmental organization supporting initiatives aimed at understanding, appreciating, enriching and disseminating the Puerto Rican humanistic experience.
The FPH’s priority will be to contribute to and increase recognition of community efforts to bring together the new and diverse humanistic dimensions that are derived from the social and cultural currents reconfiguring Puerto Rican society in the 21st century. In developing its future plans and activities, the FPH will pay special attention to the following strategic priorities:

Diversify and strengthen its programs and services that promote the development of tangible cultural products (books, posters, multimedia presentations, and others) to extend its legacy and future impact.
Appropriate use of innovative technological media to expand the reach and accessibility of the institution’s services and programs to a global level, through the online encyclopedia and other projects.
Expand and diversify the audiences and communities that are served, beyond the usual universities, schools and project directors.
Strengthen efforts to identify and obtain new sources of external funds through strategic alliances with institutions that support our mission and strategic vision.
Maintain an administrative and managerial structure that is efficient, agile and flexible
